Setting & Achieving Goals & Resolutions
We're big fans of goals here at Lume Six. Without setting a clear goal of creating the best sports bras using the most premium and performance materials, we wouldn't have been able to see it through.
Founder Margaux is no stranger to goal setting herself, who in 2020 became the first woman to climb one million feet on a mountain bike in a year. She couldn't have done that without the goal in mind and a plan to achieve it.
The New Year can be a great time to reflect on the past and what you want to achieve in the future. Regardless of what you want to do or achieve, having a goal can help you get there.
(read on below for our tips on how to reach your goals...)
1. PICK A GOAL
This can be anything you want but should be something meaningful to you. It could be anything from wanting to spend more time at the ocean to going outside every day. New Year's resolutions often have to do with losing weight or getting fit but they don't have to be! And goals don't have to start at New Year's but it can be helpful to have a meaningful benchmark to kick it off.
2. QUANTIFY YOUR GOAL
So you want to go outside every day, but for how long? And doing what? Or you want to read more books, but how many? Make sure you are clear on exactly what success means to you in achieving your goal.
Instead of "Go Outside Every Day", maybe "Go For a 30-Minute Walk Outside Every Day"
Instead of "Read More Books", maybe "Read 1 Book Every Month" (looking for inspiration? check out our Book Club! We give away one copy on our Instagram every month!)
3. KEEP YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE & CHECK IN REGULARLY
It can be a spreadsheet, calendar, or friend...anything that will help you stay accountable and see if you are staying on track. Without staying accountable it's easy to slip and forget what our goals were in the first place. This is probably the most important part of successfully seeing a goal through. Be sure to check in regularly...daily or weekly to make sure you are staying on track!
When founder Margaux planned her one million foot goal, she had a spreadsheet listing every day in the year with how much she needed to mountain bike each day, then she would fill in how much she actually did during the year. This kept her accountable and on track. Sometimes she fell behind but having a plan let her see what she needed to make up.
4. CHECK IN REGULARLY
Life happens and sometimes we fall behind or gain experience which gives us a new perspective. Give yourself leeway to check in and re-evaluate what success looks like and what you want from your goal. Maybe you need to give yourself more time or the goal means something different to you than it did when you started. Goals can adapt and change.
We often give up on goals when we fall behind or lose motivation. But use that as an opportunity to choose how you want to proceed instead of giving up.
5. REWARD YOURSELF AT BENCHMARKS
Staying on track with your goal? Reward yourself! Maybe a nice bubble bath, a sweet treat...or maybe a new sports bra you've been eyeing ;) (like the Alta Medium Impact Sports Bra).
6. CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS!
Following these steps will help you achieve your goals! And when you do - CELEBRATE IT!!! Whatever your goal was, you made it happen. You achieved something, you prioritized something that was important to you and saw it through. This is more and more challenging with the many distractions of life...so make a plan, enjoy the journey and celebrate when you do reach your goal!
THAT'S IT!
Enjoy the journey and find what is meaningful to you!
Goals look different to everybody...take the time to reflect on who you want to be and what goal will help you feel fulfilled and happy. Enjoy the journey to reaching your goal and remember that everyone will experience ups and downs, the key is acknowledging them and deciding how you want to proceed from there. Happy New Year!
