Wet Sports Bras Dripping with Water

Fastest Drying Sports Bra?

Introduction

When we created Lume Six sports bras, a key focus was making them fast drying. No one likes staying in a sweaty sports bra...or worse, putting on a sports bra the next day to find it's still wet! 😬😱 We're here to explain what contributes to a fast drying sports bra. The key factors that contribute to a fast drying sports bra are the fabrics and materials used, number of layers in the sports bra, and overall thickness of the sports bra.

💡 Did you know

A wet sports bra can contribute to chafing and discomfort while exercising? When your skin stays damp, it weakens the skin's ability to resist friction. So, when you are moving and exercising with wet garments, you are more likely to experience chafing. For this reason, it is important to find a fast drying sports bra.

Ingredients of a Fast Drying Sports Bra

Fabrics: What Makes a Fast Drying Sports Bra?

  • Knit fabrics are traditionally used for sports bras. But the structure of knit fabrics allow moisture to get trapped and cause them to dry more slowly.
  • Woven Lume Six sports bras are made from a woven fabric that allows maximum airflow and surface area for the fibers to dry quickly.
  • Thickness A thinner fabric will dry faster than a thicker fabric since there is less material to dry. However, the key is finding a lightweight/thin material that provides the structure and support needed for a sports bra.
  • Types of Materials Most sports bras are made with fabric, but some also contain different types of foam. Foam can provide coverage, but doesn't allow as much airflow or fast drying as a fabric can.

📊 We sent Lume Six sports bra fabric to Intertek, a third-party testing facility, to test how fast our sports bra fabric dries against top brands. Our fabrics dried 5 to 19 times faster than other leading sports bra brands. That means, more comfort and less chafing from Lume Six sports bras than other brands!

Thickness and Construction: Fast Drying Fabric Isn't Enough

A lightweight, fast drying fabric can only do so much. If a sports bra has many layers or the fabric is backed by thick foam or other materials, it won't be able to dry quickly. It is important to pay attention the types of materials, the number of layers, and overall thickness.

Layers

The layers of fabric in a sports bra will drastically affect the drying time. Many sports bras are built with 4-6 layers of fabric to create structure and provide coverage. However, all those layers add to the drying time, ultimately causing discomfort. We aim to use the best materials, and limiting the number of layers so that Lume Six can be some of the fastest drying sports bras available, to support in any activity.

Overall Thickness

Equally important to the fabric and number of layers, is the overall thickness of the sports bra. A thinner sports bra will dry significantly faster than a thick sports bra because the moisture will have more access to air flow for evaporation.

Varying Thickness in Sports Bras

Characteristics of a Fast Drying Sports Bra

  • Lightweight & Fast-Drying Fabric: Fabric built to be quick-drying...lightweight and breathable.
  • Minimal Layers of Material: Less layers = faster drying
  • Thinner: Thinner =faster drying

Characteristics of Slow Drying Sports Bras:

  • Thick Fabrics: Thick fabrics keep moisture trapped and unable to dry.
  • Lots of Layers: More layers = slow drying
  • Thick: Overall thickness & bulkiness adds to slow drying.
